End of Year document for 2005
Sunday, January 1st, 2006It’s the 28th of December 2005: I’m sitting at my parent’s home in the middle of nowhere deep in the countryside, and I’m going to try and document the things that have happened to me in 2005.At the beginning of the year, I joined a Web Agency that I had done some freelance work for previously, as a Web Producer. Over the whole year, I’ve won the company ‘Above and Beyond’ award (voted for by the employees) twice, received the highest bonus in both my half year and end of year appraisals and worked closely with some incredibly talented people.
Went to my first strip bar, Spearmint Rhinos with a couple of friends… Was very sick on the way back to my flat in the wee hours of the morning (was amazed I actually made it back to my flat).
Had a fantastic night out at the Comedy Store with work colleague Toby, and our girlfriends, which I’ve been meaning to do for a long time.
Saw Kevin Spacey up close in front-row seats to his excellent rendition of Shakespear’s Richard II.
Saw an early ‘surprise preview’ of Sin City at the Prince Charles Cinema in Leicester Square, thanks to my good friend George.
Went to a private screening of Mr & Mrs Smith at 20th Century Fox’s headquarters in Soho Square due to a website we did for the movie.
Sung Karaoke with work colleagues at the private karaoke bar, Lucky Voice.
Was a stubborn fucker after the July 7th bombings – spent the night at a work-colleague and great friend, Rob’s flat, walked into work the next morning and was the first person to make it into work that day.
Baked Christmas cookies two-weekends in a row, with German work colleague, David (visit his site for the recipies!). “Eine zwei drei Hasselhoff!â€
Went to Covent Garden for a food fair and a month later for a Christmas fair and had some mulled wine (again with David).
Imported two PSPs with two-sets of too many games for me and my girlfriend.
Had my first ever stress-related illness – went to the doctors and had her give me shit about it, although, to be fair, I had lost a shit load of weight since I arrived in London. But I relaxed in the evenings and weekends, joined a gym and I’m now up to my target weight of twelve stone (168lbs) or pure Alabaman muscle (well, maybe not the Alabaman part).
I definitely cannot say that this last year was exactly a relaxing one. What I can say is that it was productive.
