Sundae on the common

Monday, July 30th, 2007

I’ve been doing lots of admin work, lots of talking to clients, and have been learning some new technologies lately as well. We got our business account sorted out last week after a meeting with an incredible bank manager who was recommended to us. Luckily she managed to get the account signed up and approved in 24 hours (which is better than the three to four weeks I know some friends have had to wait). Things have been going great so far and I can honestly say with no equivocation that I haven’t felt this happy and healthy in a long time.

The Transformers Movie

Last weekend Oleg, Veronika, my girlfriend and myself went to see an early preview of the Transformers movie. I really wasn’t sure what to expect given that half the reviews say it’s brilliant and half that it’s terrible, but this film is incredible! if you want something that’s fun, has similar humour to the cartoons, and absolutely jaw-dropping visuals, then this film is for you. However, be warned: this film does have Michael Bay’s trademark cheesy moments where you can actually speak the lines just before they’re said on screen.

the Simpsons Movie

My girlfriend and I also went to see The Simpsons Movie very late on Thursday night and… it’s good… it’s just like a long episode and I’d even go as far as to say that I’ve enjoyed some 30 minute episodes a lot more than I enjoyed the film, but it’s still brilliant and worth seeing.

London South Bank of the River Thames

David and I met up early on Saturday morning at Borough market and walked along the south bank of the river Thames into town. I’ve created a new section showing some of the pictures from my time here in London so far.

Yesterday was the Ben & Jerry’s Sundae On The Common event. I can’t say I paid that much attention to the bands that were playing, but I enjoyed the ice cream and met up with so many people that I haven’t seen (at least face to face) in a long time. The weather cleared up, I got a little sunburned, and it was a really great day.

Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix

Sunday, June 24th, 2007

This morning I went to a private screening of the new Harry Potter Film in Leicester Square – where it’s going to premiere next week – thanks to John, who has just spent the last few months working on the film at his digital effects company.

Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix

We grabbed breakfast and a coffee in the square, which was sorely needed this early on a Sunday morning, and headed to the cinema. Just as with the James Bond screening John invited me to, despite checking everyone around me, none of the security guards checked my bag, but they did take our mobile phones.

The film was stunningly well made, the effects and sets were beautiful and the acting is always improving in the series – perhaps I wasn’t too empathetic with Harry’s struggle, but that could be because it felt like we’d seen it all before in the other films so far. Gary Oldman steals the show completely – as he always does in every film that he’s in. Definitely worth seeing if you get the chance.

It’s been great catching up with John again – we’ve been meeting up every weekend for the last few weeks - we hadn’t seen each other for a while after we moved out of our last flat.

The first weekend we met up, we took a walk through St James’ Park late at night – I always thought the park looked incredible during the day, but it looks just a good lit up at night - another thing everyone should do if they find themselves in the area at night - just try not to get mugged.

Only a week till the iPhone is released in the US and roughly six months till it’s released here in the UK. If you haven’t watched the tour yet, check It out.

Cold in Early Summer

Sunday, May 13th, 2007

I had a cold throughout most of the bank holiday weekend and my girlfriend kept me indoors – not the ideal way to spend a long weekend! But at least I’ve recovered now and we spent time together.

I saw Spiderman 3 with a friend on bank holiday Monday last week. We bought tickets in the royal circle of the Odeon cinema in Leicester Square where it premiered. I’ve heard lots of mixed reviews of the film, but I really enjoyed it. It’s identical in style to the first two, so if you enjoyed them, you’ll enjoy this one. Definitely worth seeing in my opinion.

Apple iPod

My company gave me my Above & Beyond Award gift at the end of last month - thank you! – a 30Gb black iPod video with a dock. I love this thing! Finally I can store and listen to all my music on a single device, as opposed to having to pick and choose a few songs with my iPod nano. Although it has made me realise that I have 10Gb of music and since I buy most of my music on iTunes, I’m a little concerned about how much money I’ve spent on tracks over the last couple of years. I converted a couple of movies and TV series to iPod format, too and the quality is fantastic. The battery life isn’t brilliant when you watch videos, but since I recharge it with the dock at work, it’s fine.

Both Groove Armada and The Cinematic Orchestra released new albums last week – I haven’t had the chance to listen to either properly yet, but I’ve heard a couple of brilliant tracks on each album – ‘What’s Your Version?’, ‘Paris’, ‘Love Sweet Sound’ and ‘From The Rooftops’ are standout tracks for me on Groove Armada’s ‘Soundboy Rock’. ‘Breathe’ and ‘Familiar Ground’ are my favourites so far on The Cinematic Orchestra’s ‘Ma Fleur’.
