One of the reasons I didn't pursue journalism as a career was exactly for this 'doom and gloom' aspect of reporting and what apparently makes news sell. It's ok to sometimes write about things that get right on your t*ts as you'd be surprised how many people exactly the same way as you do. With enough vocalisation, you may even spur some positive change without realising it.
